1/28/2010So, recently i switched my home page to http://www.bing.com/.. I was going there a lot to search anyway so i just switched. Wow, am i glad i did. Even the images MS puts up are wild. Today there's a wild NASA image of space. And accidently moving the mouse around i found hotspots. For instance, found a spot where there's a black hole. Click and i had all kinds of stuff on black holes. And there's tons more. Looks like Bing has turned into a great portal. 1/27/2010Working on a client app where i need to bind to an indexed list of accounts where each account in the list is an Account object.. I got this working today to bind to a generic list indexer: <TextBox x:Name="Account730AValueTextBox" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding AccountsDictionary[AAA].AccountValue, Mode=TwoWay}" /> AAA is the account number. So there you have AccountValue returned from the Account object for AAA. Pretty cool if you ask me. Binding to indexers really rocks. 1/26/2010 Hot dog. We are using VS 2010 for a client project and i have to say it rocks. Check this out. In the code editor, hold down Ctrl then scroll the mouse wheel. Text zooms in and out. Brilliant. 12/28/20092010 will be the year of Silverlight and WPF! Visual Studio 2010 is coming fast and along with it Blend 4 is right beside of it. The new features for XAML development alone will empower developers to go get on board the train. And with SharePoint 2010 coming and its new Silverlight support, that will drive SL and WPF into the masses. Plus, more and more examples of new SL and WPF applications are driving people to adopt the technology. The train is fast leaving the station so don’t be left behind. 12/2/2009 Heres a new slightly tweaked version of my wpf code generator. It now is in VS 2010 format and has a little better UI. Download You will also need the following template folder and files: TemplateFolder 11/20/2009PDC rocked this year. The many new features in Silverlight were awesome and then the sessions that drilled into different topics were great. And what about the wild tablet PC giveaway! Thanks to Acer and Microsoft for pulling that one off. In fact, as I write this I am doing so on my new tablet at about 30,000 feet over somewhere. The cloud computing revolution is gaining momentum in a big way too. And what about Snapflow? What a great application to demonstrate the power of the cloud and Silverlight too. Check out the recorded sessions at www.microsoftpdc.com. Check out the sessions too (http://microsoftpdc.com/Sessions). They were awesome in my opinion. And I love the recording so we can watch the ones we missed or rewatch ones that were great. For me, this was the best PDC ever due to the great content and of course the awesome tablet PC. Now lets go rock the world with Silverlight 4 and WPF. 11/16/2009I think everyone knows how i love Windows 7. 1) Just saw Windows 7 on Fox today for the football games 2) Zune HD made the Popular Mechanics Mag XMas wish list and also had a great splash in Consumer Reports Magazine. I love my Zune and am really glad its getting some well deserved play time 3) And the VS 2010 buz is starting. The new features are amazing and the VSTS stuff (more on this later) rocks on. Keep up the great work. 11/15/2009One of my favorite things about Win 7 is the new toolbar support. I love the shortcut feature that you have now with pinned applications so you can just click on something to get going. And i really love how Win 7 reacts when you Alt Tab to switch windows. You can hover the mouse over an item in the windows list and then Win 7 shows you the real app. So for instance, if Outlook is not displaying, i can Alt Tab and hover over outlook and see what mail i have without ever really switching to outlook. This is a stroke of genius to me. Time for the PDC again. If you are not coming yet, check out the site and get here! Not too late Microsoft PDC09 Also, check out the site above and look for the Channel 9 broadcasts to learn about stuff going on here. I can’t wait to see the Silverlight and RIA Services session and more. Azure and other things are going to rock the world as time goes on. And check out www.TheRegion.com and see what the RDs are saying this week. 11/11/2009Another cool VS 2010 feature! Open the data window and create a data connection like you would in VS 2008. Then drag and drop an item onto a WPF form and viola, you now have a layout with a nice bound data grid. Add one or so lines of code and boom a working form. This is a really nice way to get something going in WPF and making our life much easier.
